The Role
Suffolk is seeking a strategic expert to lead its exploration of Artificial Intelligence applications for the construction industry, with a technical focus on generative AI and large language models, and a domain focus within architecture and engineering (A/E) specifically, and construction more generally. The role would collaborate with both technical and business stakeholders to develop and execute a comprehensive AI strategy aligned with the organization’s goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will be highly strategic and creative as well as possess a deep knowledge of AI techniques to understand the art of the possible. They also need to be highly collaborative, as this role will involve close work with existing resources within the broader organization to drive progress. Experience working in an A/E or construction environment is highly desirable, but not required.3 major components are envisioned for the role: The first and most material will be to work with Suffolk Design, a fully integrated architectural and engineering services vertical within Suffolk Construction, which aims to leverage Suffolk’s core construction capabilities along with innovative technologies, to create a disruptive digital design and engineering platform, capable of delivering construction-ready design with unprecedented levels of speed, accuracy, and technical competence. The role will work with Suffolk Design resources to lead the integration of artificial intelligence into our architectural and engineering design processes. Some development may also be required, but it is envisioned that existing tools and solutions with the market will be leveraged, developing only if necessary, and typically in collaboration with external partners and / or cross functional internal teams. The second is to work with Suffolk’s Data Analytics team and maintain an overview of the Predictive and ML work happening within the Construction vertical. The third is to focus on understanding and piloting Large Language Models to capture business value, including working with strategic partners like Microsoft.
