The Role:  

This Analyst, Sustainability, is responsible for supporting and advancing Suffolk’s sustainability initiatives across projects and operations Key responsibilities include managing and tracking green building certifications, staying current with evolving sustainability regulations and technologies, and supporting the integration of sustainable design and construction practices. 

Additionally, the role will help manage Corporate carbon emissions trackingCollaboration across teams—especially with Suffolk Technologies and Suffolk Design—is critical to identify opportunities, vet new tools and processes, and drive continuous improvement in Suffolk’s sustainability performance.  This position reports to the Senior Director of Sustainability. 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:  

  • Track and guide the sustainability certification process on Suffolk projects, managing the documentation workflow, setting up projects for success with in-house set plans and templates, etc., and training teams on how to read and reviewing ‘green’ submittals, and maintaining updated templates and reports for owners. 
  • Attend and provide input at Participate in sustainability meetings  as required (Precon/charrettes, Project Kickoffs, and Construction Progress) and provide input as needed.  
  • Researches, monitors, and integrates evolving requirements for green building certification programs, sustainable technologies, construction methods, and building regulations into project planning and execution to ensure alignment with sustainability goals and compliance standards. Capable and willing to research, learn, and stay current with the ever-changing requirements for green building certification sustainability programs, sustainable technologies, construction techniques, and building regulations that influence our work and specific building types 
  • Manage updated and accurate region-specific guidelines for applicable green building regulations. that impact our projects and how we can help owners comply. 
  • Assist in tracking components of the corporate carbon emissions, including but not limited to the following: 
  • Managing systems for collecting Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions data across all business units and operations. 
  • Collaborateing with various departments such as (e.g., operations, procurement, facilities, and logistics) to gather accurate and timely data. 
  • Maintaining a comprehensive centralized database aligned with to track and store emissions tracking data in alignment with established protocols. 
  • Manage an up-to-date database of the enterprise’s projects pursuing sustainability certifications and sustainability goals, as tagged by CRM sustainability criteria, ensuring and ensure information is kept up to date and is  consistencyt across all internal platforms that leverage similar data.   
  • Evaluating new sustainability tools and technologies that will streamline workflows and drive efficiencies across interdepartmental efforts, making recommendations for adoption.  
  • Design and manage a system to track ENR-designated green projects through final certification, oversee data input, and provide accurate sustainability data to Marketing for articles and green building rankings. Design and manage system for tracking ENR green projects for final certification status and communicate with marketing, managing Sustainability Coordinator who does data collection and input.  Support marketing with accurate sustainability facts, when requested for articles, and green building stats for ‘green’ lists such as ENR.

  • Develop and deliver a credential maintenance program to support staff in sustaining their sustainability credentials, including curriculum design, training sessions, and ongoing availability for guidance. Support Sustainability Coordinator with any staff requests to maintain their sustainability credentials by creating a credentialing maintenance course curriculum (or other similar program) and providing training sessions/availability to encourage compliance.

  • In combination with senior team members, help Support the development and refinement of sustainability training materials for all staff as well as specific materials for regional subject matter experts. 
  • Develop the skills and experience needed to Contribute to the project proposals and interviews over time, supporting the team leadership on continuous improvement for proposal and interview approach. 
  • Representing Suffolk’s positive 'green' reputationsustainability leadership through presentations and various forms of active engagement within the AEC community by attending conferences or similar local industry events and conferences. 
  • Assist Support thein developingment and promotionng of field sustainability procedures 
  • Help collect data and contribute to the creation of build sustainability scorecards for energy, water, materials, and incentives integration, including: 
  • Developing low-carbon material procurement and documentation plans. 
  • Develop embodied carbon modeling skillsets  
  • Supporting Preconstruction Teams in low- carbon material procurement strategies.  

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:  

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 1 year experience in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Sciences, Consulting, or related.  Architecture or Engineering background preferred. 
  • Understanding of carbon accounting standards (GHG Protocol, SBTi, etc.) preferred. 
  • Familiarity with corporate sustainability reporting frameworks (CDP, GRI, TCFD) preferred. 
  • Proven success in Construction Administration and / or Project Management. 
  • Specialized experience in sustainability. 
  • Accredited professional in some form of green building program, preferably LEED AP. 
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, multi-tasking, patient. 
  • Ability to identify and solve potential sustainability challenges on our projects. 
  • Proficient in third-party sustainable building certification programs for construction documentation requirements and processes. 
  • Ability to read drawings and specifications.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in an office environment with a quiet to moderate noise level.
