Overview

The Digital Orchestration & Integration Engineer is a senior individual contributor responsible for designing, developing, and enhancing Suffolk’s enterprise orchestration and integration solutions. This role creates the secure, scalable, and resilient digital fabric that connects Suffolk’s business systems and platforms.

Reporting to the Manager of Enterprise Integration Solutions, this engineer will design and implement advanced integration patterns, develop reusable frameworks and services, and support modernization efforts across the integration landscape. They will provide technical leadership within the team, mentoring peers and guiding design decisions, while adhering to established architectural standards and enterprise strategies.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Platform Design & Architecture

  • Contribute to the design of complex orchestration and integration solutions using modern iPaaS platforms
  • Implement event-driven, publish-subscribe, API-led, and streaming integration patterns within defined architectural frameworks.
  • Support platform evaluations and proofs of concept in collaboration with senior engineers and vendor partners.
  • Provide input to evolving reference architectures, standards, and best practices.

API & Event Fabric Engineering

  • Design, build, and support APIs across their full lifecycle: specification, versioning, deployment, security, and retirement.
  • Develop integration components aligned to established standards for reusability, discoverability, and governance.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of API catalogs and event registries in partnership with platform leads.

Secure Development & Automation

  • Engineer real-time and batch integrations with a focus on performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Build reusable connectors, accelerators, and integration frameworks to speed future delivery.
  • Participate in design and code reviews and implement automated testing and CI/CD deployment pipelines.

Security, Compliance & Data Protection

  • Implement enterprise security protocols including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, SAML, and mTLS.
  • Ensure integration solutions comply with frameworks such as SOC 2, GDPR, and HIPAA, and adhere to corporate data governance policies.

Observability & Operational Excellence

  • Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting standards to ensure integration performance, resilience, and availability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across distributed integration systems.

Collaboration & Technical Leadership

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver orchestrated solutions spanning APIs, data pipelines, and event-driven systems.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior developers and offshore teams.
  • Advocate for engineering best practices and reusable digital assets that accelerate delivery.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience developing integrations in large enterprise environments.
  • Proven experience delivering complex integration solutions within enterprise architecture frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing event-driven architecture, composable business capabilities, and advanced digital workflows.
  • Deep expertise with iPaaS and API management platforms such as Boomi, MuleSoft, or Informatica.
  • Strong background in designing and implementing complex data integrations between business applications, including writing functional specs, technical designs, and ERD diagrams.
  • Proficient in JavaScript and Groovy scripting for custom integration development.
  • Familiarity with security and compliance standards such as SOC 2, GDPR, and HIPAA.
  • Solid knowledge of infrastructure and networking concepts related to service sizing and scalability.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong organizational and project execution skills; able to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Highly self-motivated, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stands; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
