Role: 

 

Infrastructure Services encompass various technical areas focusing on IT (Information Technology) governance, service management and delivery, and technology oversight. This group is accountable for delivering all technology infrastructure services, including Cloud and SaaS, data centers, networks, servers/storage, end-user computing, telephony, and security services.  Within Infrastructure Services, the core infrastructure team supports all aspects of the Cloud, virtual servers and storage environments, and associated technologies for Suffolk and our customers nationally.

 

As a member of the Core Infrastructure Services Team, the Senior/Lead Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for effective architecture/design, procurement, provisioning, deployment, configuration, operation, maintenance, and capacity planning of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. Additionally, the individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational standards, enabling staff and business units. The incumbent acts as a resource and an escalation point for Support Desk personnel fielding incident requests, providing resolution and root cause analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall infrastructure platforms architecture and design, recommending updates and changes as technology evolves, with the goal of maintaining state-of-the-art, high performing, and highly-available services to all Suffolk personnel.
  • Maintain and manage Azure / AWS and its associated IaaS or PaaS offerings.
  • Evaluate and research new emerging infrastructure solutions; develop, document, and present recommendation proposals, including selection criteria, evaluation, analysis of options, tradeoffs, justifications, and final selections
  • Work to reduce or remove inefficiencies in cloud and on-prem infrastructure processes and identify areas of improvement.
  • Collaborate with technical leadership, development, and business stakeholders to meet operational objectives for high availability, reliability, performance, stability, and security
  • Work closely with our Manage Service Providers to plan and execute infrastructure projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Collaborate with our Managed Service Providers to develop and implement best practices for infrastructure management, including incident management, change management, and problem resolution.
  • Develop, test, and modify business continuity and disaster recovery processes
  • Process DNS Registrations and certificate requests for both Public and on premise
  • Create and maintain process and procedure documents and system standards
  • Engineering and installation of server solutions, including the design, configuration, and maintenance of hardware and software to meet operational and project requirements, ensuring alignment with organizational standards.
  • Provide incident response for all critical service interruptions and outages
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are backed up to the appropriate media.
  • Provide Tier III/other support per request from various stakeholder groups.
  • Manage OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services, as necessary.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment
  • Must be able to respond to unplanned system outages during off-hours.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Demonstrated knowledge with physical and virtualized servers
  • Demonstrated knowledge managing complex Azure and AWS environments
  • Microsoft platform expertise: In-depth knowledge of computing, storage, networking, security, databases, and analytics.
  • DNS registration and certificate experience, both on premise and public
  • Proficiency with hyperconverged infrastructure, Windows Server, and Linux
  • Strong design, architecture, installation and configuration experience of enterprise level virtual environments including High Availability and Fault Tolerant Features
  • Proficient knowledge in Microsoft environments; Windows Server, Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy and Security Administration, Certification Authority (CA), SQL Server, O365, Exchange, SharePoint
  • Understanding of Citrix Cloud, XenApp and XenDesktop services
  • Demonstrated PowerShell scripting experience
  • Experience strategically managing vendors and third-party service providers
  • Demonstrated knowledge with TCP/IP, DNS, 802.1x, and DHCP protocols
  • Skilled in Server hardware troubleshooting and configuration
  • Commitment to continual development of technical skillsets and knowledge sharing
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and mentor others
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and problem-solving talents
  • Must be customer service oriented
  • Excellent project management, documentation, and presentation skills

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years professional experience in IT, systems administration, networking, and related technical field.
  • S. in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent proven professional experience.
  • Must be flexible, self-organizing, independent, and ready to self-study emerging technologies.
  • Experience with the following software/ applications/ tasks is required:
    • Nutanix Hyperconverged Infrastructure e.g. AHV, Prism, Async DR, block deployment and ongoing administration/maintenance.
    • Microsoft Azure/Entra ID and Amazon Web Services
    • Microsoft technologies, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, certificate authorities, and fluency in PowerShell
    • Big Fix or Configuration Management solution; Endpoint Manager, Lifecycle, Inventory, and Compliance.
    • Commvault Enterprise Data Protection
    • VMWare vSphere and vCenter
    • Network and Security protocols (Azure NSG)
  • Experience administering and automating Windows and Linux servers and end-user workstations
  • Familiar with administering Exchange system in a hybrid environment
  • Ability to multitask between large and small projects as needed.
