Manager of Process Innovation

The Manager of Process Innovation is responsible for driving innovation and supporting rollout of major processes across operations with a heavy focus on VDC.

The successful candidate will help provide direction and proof of the implementation of leading edge VDC processes and technologies throughout Suffolk’s construction projects to create the competitive edge for Suffolk in the industry.


The Manager of Process Innovation is a position in the Process Innovation Team reporting up to the Director of Process Innovation. The team reports up to the Senior Operations Manager.


  • To implement and drive VDC processes, reports, analytics, lessons learned and training materials to support the implementation of new disruptive processes across all regions. This would include travel to our regional offices and jobsites.
  • To work closely with the regional Co-Labs to help drive pilots of new innovative tools and processes.
  • To help coordinate the training and coaching of project teams on new processes.
  • To provide training and support of VDC processes, software and tools to project teams.
  • To collect, analyze, monitor and measure project and company performance data.
  • Create reports and presentations on analytical findings for delivery to senior management.
  • Represent Suffolk with Owner(s), Architects, Consultants, Government Authorities, Vendors and Subcontractors.
  • Build effective working relationships with clients and the Suffolk project team members.
  • Manage the communication between parties- owner, architect, engineer, subcontractors, vendors, Suffolk Team.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or applicable discipline and experience.
  • Commercial construction experience implementing new technologies or processes on larger construction projects.
  • Field or PM experience on larger construction projects.
  • Proficiency in the Autodesk suite, MS Office suite and Suffolk’s current Project Management Tools.


  • Industry knowledge above and beyond general construction knowledge and experience.
  • Excellent business judgment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and tactical experience in 3D modelling using Autodesk software; Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, BIM 360 etc,
  • Ability to consistently analyze and execute financial trade-offs
  • Ability to constantly multi-task and handle competing priorities between Suffolk business needs, organizational issues, and sound customer relations.
  • A strong sense of urgency and initiative.

Operations requirements

  • Ability to create and maintain relationships between Design Team, Trades and Suffolk to drive the virtual process. 
  • Ability to navigate and lead discussions with owner and design consultants regarding design expectations/delivery in contract documents. 
  • Ability to explain and persuade design consultants and trade partners to participate and follow the Coordinated Layout process through normal project management procedures and tools.
  • Assist the Project Team and Trade Partners with reviewing submittals, shop drawings, layout and sequencing the work virtually from VDC Models.  Ensure trade partners and Suffolk field personnel understand the Coordinated Layout process and how to access/use the approved CL drawings for construction activities.
  • Coordinate the MEPs and possibly manage the MEP Models. Conduct coordination meetings while maintaining the coordination and overall project schedules.

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stands; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in an office environment with a quiet to moderate noise level. Job site walking.
