Infrastructure Services encompasses a variety of technical areas that focus on IT Governance, Service Management and Delivery, and Technology Oversight. This group is accountable for the delivery of all technology infrastructure services including but not limited to Cloud and SaaS, Data Centers, Networks, Servers/Storage, Desktops, Telephony and Security services.  Within Infrastructure Services, the Core Infrastructure team supports all aspects of the Cloud and virtual server and storage environment and the associated technologies for Suffolk and our customers nationally.


As a member of the Core Infrastructure Services Team, the Infrastructure Engineer or Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for effective architecture/design, procurement, provisioning, deployment, configuration, operation, maintenance and capacity planning of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. Additionally, the individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational standards, enabling staff and business units.  Acts as a resource and an escalation point for Support Desk personnel fielding incident requests and providing resolution and root cause analysis.




  • Day-to-day management of all foundational and application infrastructure.
  • Incident response for all critical service interruptions and outages.
  • Responsible for overall infrastructure platforms architecture and design, recommending updates and changes as technology evolves, with the goal of maintaining a state-of-the-art, high performing, and highly available services to all Suffolk personnel.
  • Maintain and manage Azure and its associated SaaS offerings (O365, Exchange, MS Teams)
  • Build and configure virtual machines as requested by application teams
  • Evaluate and research new emerging infrastructure solutions; develop, document, and present recommendation proposals, including selection criteria, evaluation, analysis of options, tradeoffs, justifications, and final selections
  • Process DNS Registrations and Certificate requests
  • Create and maintain Process and Procedure documents
  • Engineering of Server Administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media.
  • Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies.
  • Manage OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.


Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Demonstrated knowledge with both physical and virtualized servers
  • Proficiency with Hyperconverged Infrastructure, Windows Server/Active Directory and Linux
  • Design, Architecture, Installation and Configuration experience of enterprise level VMware environments including High Availability and Fault Tolerant Features
  • Proficient knowledge in Microsoft environments, Windows 2012 and Windows 2016 Server, SQL Server and Exchange, SharePoint
  • Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy and Security Administration
  • Proficient knowledge in Citrix Cloud, XenApp and XenDesktop services
  • Experience with Azure and AWS management
  • DNS registration and Certificate experience
  • PowerShell scripting experience
  • Experience working with vendors and third-party contractor companies as part of the team
  • Demonstrated knowledge with TCP/IP, DNS, 802.1x, and DHCP protocols;
  • Skilled in Server hardware troubleshooting and configuration
  • Commitment to continual development of technical skillsets and knowledge sharing
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong Group Policy writing and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and problem-solving talents
  • Must be customer service oriented
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Excellent project management, documentation and communication skills
  • Must be able to respond to system outages during off-hours.


  • Minimum of 7 years professional experience in IT, systems administration, networking, devops, or related technical field.
  • S. in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent proven professional experience.
  • Must be flexible, self-organizing, independent, and ready to self-study emerging issues.
  • Experience with the following software/ applications/ tasks is required:
    • Nutanix Hyperconverged Infrastructure, AHV, Prism, Async DR, block deployment and ongoing administration/maintenance.
    • BigFix Endpoint Manager, Lifecycle, Inventory, and Compliance
    • Commvault Enterprise Data Protection
    • VMWare vSphere and vCenter
    • Microsoft Azure/Azure AD and Amazon Web Services
    • Microsoft technologies, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, certificate authorities, and fluency in PowerShell
    • Routing protocols and network monitoring protocols
  • Experience administering and automating Windows and Linux servers and end-user workstations
  • Experience administering Exchange/Outlook O365 email system
  • Ability to multitask between large and small projects as needed.
