    We are looking for a highly qualified individual who is passionate about leveraging new capabilities enabled by big data and advanced analytics, emerging technologies, and digital functionality to build smarter. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, passionate about driving the industry forwards, and is experienced in leading change. This candidate will join at the intersection of Suffolk’s operations leadership and Data Team and run one of our industry-first Smart Labs located in Los Angeles. They are part of a team that is focused on scaling change throughout the organization and serve to connect Smart Lab efforts throughout the organization.

     

    This role will report into both Construction Operations and the Data function, while also working closely with members of the IT, Innovation, and Business Development teams. Internally, he / she will be responsible for engaging the organization with improved ways to leverage digital tools, data, and analytics through the SmartLab. This includes driving internal stakeholders in operations and other functions to use data dashboards, leverage collaborative meeting tools, engage with and pilot startup solutions, and test and scale new initiatives across projects. Additionally, he / she will provide business analytic support to the data team and local office operations leadership. Externally, he / she will be responsible for walking prospective clients through our technological capabilities, showcasing the advanced tools and processes we use to build.

     

    Suffolk’s Smart Lab Directors are generalists with an area of technical specialization. They are adept communicators about the value of technology to both technical and non-technical audiences, particularly clients or potential clients. They are also strong collaborators who can partner with field and corporate resources to identify opportunities and execute plans that drive value for Suffolk and its clients. 

     

    We are seeking an LA Smart Lab Director who is skilled and experienced in data and analytics and is familiar with construction.  The candidate must be comfortable working in cross-functional teams, have an analytical mindset, and be able to work with little supervision.   S/he also has strong analytical skills and is familiar with modern data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI); familiarity with data science techniques, particularly advanced statistical modelling approaches, is a plus but not required.

    Responsibilities

    • Data:
      • Design dashboards to support regional operations - Lead and manage the design, production and continuous improvement of key operational metrics, including identifying leading indicators that that help manage outcomes
      • Prepare and present reports - Design and deliver monthly operations analytics report to national and regional operational management on trends in operations performance, highlighting issues to address; develop ad-hoc reports as needed
      • Collect and analyze data - Structure, design and conduct analytics to understand underlying drivers of performance and trends; track trends and development in key metrics
      • Build strong relationships – Develop and maintain a strong network of operations stakeholders and serve as an agent of change to embed a data-driven decision-making culture across the operations
    • SmartLab strategist & evangelist:
      • Ensure optimum utilization of the Smart Lab by:
        • Facilitating highly interactive and collaborative planned operations meetings that take advantage of the various technologies
        • Leverage the Smart Lab facilities to provide exceptional and engaging client experiences within which to demonstrate Suffolk’s value propositions
      • Lead efforts around innovation and startup pilots in the region, serving as regional expert on innovation initiatives across Suffolk, contributing to research, development, and testing efforts
      • Partner with Learning and Development on regular and ad-hoc trainings
        • On processes to ensure transition from successful pilots of new initiatives to deployment
        • On data analytics tools and processes to enable data discovery and self-service analytics
    • General operational support:
      • Ensure the technology in the Lab is operational
      • Responsible for the digital content used in the Lab and communicating its applicability to creating business value
      • Provide general technology support within the office and region on an as-needed basis

     

    Qualifications

     

    • 4-year college degree in a quantitative or construction-related field
    • 3-5 years of work experience in data analytics, business analytics, or related fields; experience in the construction space
    • Passion for understanding how data can be used for competitive advantage; preference for candidates who is familiar with big data and advanced analytics and can identify the business improvement opportunities
    • Excellence in analytical problem definition and structuring
    • Relentless focus on data precision and vigilance around appropriate conclusions
    • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong customer focus, relationship management skills and teamwork
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to synthesize implications from data
    • Ability to be a cultural change leader who can drive results through direct and indirect influence
    • Energetic, enthusiastic self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • A team player with excellent collaboration skills
    • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite, with aptitude to learn new programs
    • Proficiency in Tableau, Microsoft PowerBI and Microsoft Access a plus
