    The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the coordination of all sub contractor development and management activities.  The individual will be charged with initiating and maintaining supplier alliances that focus on ease of doing business and reduction in costs. 





    • Responsible for ensuring that Suffolk receives the best value in all purchases, while ensuring that risk, capability and workload are evaluated as part of award.

    • Responsible for procuring subcontractors and materials to construct specific project.

    • Schedule meetings with subcontractors and materials suppliers to obtain best possible pricing for scope of work.

    • Check references on subcontractors and material suppliers, review workload, past performance, project sizes, bonding capability and financial positions.  Work with Risk Management Department.

    • Issue letter of intent with appropriate back up.

    • Notify subcontractors that were considered for job, but not awarded job, of status and provide reasonable feedback.

    • Field calls from subcontractors regarding status of buy.

    • Work with project team to ensure that any special project conditions are incorporated into the general terms of contracts.

    • Prepare and track buy schedule, ensuring buy stays on track.

    • Support Estimating and Project Management.

    • Verify that alternate and unit prices are incorporated into Bid and are competitive with other bidders.

    • Update all purchasing reports, including actual buy and profit projections, on a weekly basis.



    • 10 or more years of Purchasing experience in the Construction Industry
    • Knowledge of best in class strategies from major GC or CM purchasing practices
    • Advanced level of GMP expertise
    • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or applicable discipline and / or equivalent experience relevant to position

    • Team leader with excellent diplomatic and communication skills, able to handle and resolve conflicts effectively in a firm but fair manner.



    Working Conditions

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stands; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in an office environment with a quiet to moderate noise level. Job site walking.
