  • Overview

    The primary responsibility of the Vice President of Business Development is to identify leads, develop and implement account plans; enhance and sustain key relationships which will result in growth and diversification for Suffolk’s New York region.  Leading a developing the local BD team, the role also requires oversight and effective execution of the business development process.

    Responsibilities

    • Identify qualified opportunities through the development of strategic relationships with architects, Engineers, developers, financiers and owners.
    • Provide thought-leadership in the defined sector and region while maintaining up-to-date knowledge of developments in these areas.
    • Critically apply market and business sectors knowledge toward the formation of pre-qualified opportunity and client lists.
    • Develop and execute against detailed account plans.
    • Develop and execute against detailed agency/association membership plans to maximize development of industry relationships.
    • Actively manage customer relationship management database (CRM).
    • Lead the articulation of Suffolk’s unique value proposition of ‘Build Smart’ for each opportunity.
    • Work closely with National and Regional Marketing departments to ensure consistency of brand message.
    • Support the company’s response to requests for proposals and bid opportunities once qualified opportunities have been identified.
    • Support preparation of document package with the Marketing Team and project team for the interview phase.
    • Lead business development teams across a national platform to deliver superior results in client services
    • Actively participate in the development and execution of company long-term strategic plans
    • Translate corporate strategy into a comprehensive business development plan for the New York region, targeting growth and sector diversification
    • Provide clear communication and analyze data to client and team to achieve project goals
    • Represent Suffolk at relevant industry events and speaking engagements while maintaining excellent public speaking and presentation skills in client facing and high-pressure situations.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or relevant discipline with ten years’ experience in the field or a related area
    • Extensive knowledge of construction markets and business sectors is essential.
    • A thorough familiarity with construction concepts, definitions, practices, and procedures is fundamental.  Knowledge of local planning, permitting, and zoning regulations is required.

    • Understanding and knowledge related to dynamics and trends that affect our clients

    Working Conditions

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stands; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in an office environment with a quiet to moderate noise level. Job site walking.
