    We are looking for a highly qualified individual who is passionate about emerging technologies, entrepreneurial, and has experience driving change in an organization to join Suffolk’s Innovation Team and run one of our industry-first Smart Labs located in New York City. This role will work closely with partners and stakeholders within Suffolk’s New York Region, and with members of the Innovation Team in all offices to engage the organization with new technologies, increase utilization of the Smart Lab, and ensure coordination and sharing of new initiatives across projects.

     

    Suffolk’s Innovation Team consists of dedicated resources focusing on high potential areas of disruptive change along with a series of regional Smart Labs which connect innovative efforts throughout the organization. Together, they serve as a system of technology incubators, leading disruptive idea generation, research, and testing with the goal of launching breakthrough solutions and services inspired by global trends and emerging technologies.

     

    Based in our New York office, the Smart Lab Director will work collaboratively within the robust NY innovation ecosystem to explore new ways of creating value for Suffolk and our clients by enhancing the value of our planning and control process and leveraging our virtual design and construction efforts through enhanced visualization, solutions development, data integration and research into other potentially disruptive technologies. In addition, they will showcase our Build Smart capabilities and drive the conversation around innovation within the region.

    Responsibilities

    • Leads Suffolk’s NY-based Smart Lab providing technology leadership combined with business acumen

     

    • Acts as the Lab strategist & evangelist

      • Demonstrates the business value created by technology and solutions represented in the Lab
      • Leads engagement efforts around innovation in the region
      • Identifies and drives opportunities to engage employees and partners to ensure clear understanding of value and deliverables from the Lab
      • Serves as regional expert on innovation initiatives across Suffolk, contributing to research, development, and testing efforts
      • Engages in the research and development of disruptive solutions which have the potential to change how the construction industry operates

     

    • Champions innovation efforts within the NY region
      • Works collaboratively with employees to leverage the lab and understand what innovative solutions can be effective moving the business forward
      • Facilitates the idea generation and piloting process in partnership with business owners
      • Partners with Operations Support to ensure transition from successful pilots of new initiatives to deployment

     

    • Oversees the management of the day-to-day Lab operations
      • Ensure the technology in the Lab is operational
      • Responsible for the digital content used in the Lab and communicating its applicability to creating business value

     

     

    • Oversees the implementation of advances in our technology and solutions as they are developed

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 7 years of proven progressive experience using technology to drive change within an organization
    • Strong technical skills required with expertise in systems development tools and collaboration tools preferred
    • Experience in a construction or a construction-related field
    • Strong ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization. Must possess strong analytical, strategic, project management, decision-making and problem-solving skills
    • Passion for understanding how technology can be used for competitive advantage; preference for candidates who demonstrate awareness of the latest tools and trends in software development and data science
    • Ability to successfully manage in a test and learn, rapid iteration environment in support of piloting solutions
    • Ability to manage unstructured information and communicate/translate it to others in a more structure way
    • Ability to think past current constraints and influence others to gain buy-in and alignment
    • Ability to be a cultural change leader who can drive results thru direct and indirect influence
    • Energetic, enthusiastic self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills and an eye for detail
    • Experience with other Innovation Lab environments a plus
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

    Working Conditions

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stands; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in an office environment with a quiet to moderate noise level. Job site walking.
