Overview

The person in this role would be responsible for raising the local visibility of the Suffolk brand and senior leadership through public affairs, government affairs, media relations, community outreach, and marketing/communications efforts in the region (Los Angeles and San Diego OR San Francisco).  He/she will represent the Suffolk brand in all interactions, meetings and activities.

Responsibilities

Marketing

  • Work closely with Corporate Marketing to develop and execute an integrated marketing and communications plan to advance and broaden awareness of Suffolk’s brand identity in the region. Collaborate with Corporate Marketing to develop and execute strategies to share local success stories externally and internally.
  • Represent Suffolk and our interests by attending strategic business, industry and community events, luncheons, dinners, galas and key meetings; make strategic recommendations for executive/BD participation in events, manage and track event participation, and measure effectiveness of event participation for future involvement.
  • Leverage in-depth knowledge of local Suffolk projects and strong relationships with local employees to identify compelling success stories and opportunities to reinforce Suffolk’s “build smart” brand;
  • Develop strong relationships with leaders and influencers in the construction, architectural, engineering and developer communities to help identify appropriate contacts and opportunities to open doors for Business Development efforts, sponsorship opportunities, speaking opportunities, etc. Make strategic recommendations for executive relationships, manage/track relationship development and measure effectiveness of participation.
  • Collaborate and strategize with regional “rainmakers” and Business Developers to ensure local visibility and branding strategies/tactics are aligned with local business strategies and objectives; coordinate closely with local and national pursuit teams to ensure alignment of key messaging, branding and strategies.
  • Manage local media activities by developing partnerships with local media relations agency contacts, building relationships with editors and reporters from top-tier local publications, and assisting senior regional leaders to engage with the media for interviews and editorial opportunities; leverage editorial relationships to reinforce Suffolk’s brand through print and online media to reach a broader audience (i.e. third-party validation).
  • Independently manage ongoing regional marketing and communications initiatives, including story identification and mining; develop pitch ideas for media outreach; information gathering for local project stories; coordination of project milestone events; production of collateral and giveaways; content development, team interviews, abstract writing and production of local award and speaking opportunity submittals.

 

Public Affairs

  • Build a broad local network by developing relationships with local political figures and engaging trade associations and business organizations; partner with Business Development to identify/optimize relationships with key constituencies that could provide new business leads.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Suffolk regional leadership and the public affairs agency to assist leaders in networking, building relationships with key local influencers, engaging appropriate business and community organizations, and making introductions to local government officials who can “soften the ground” for Business Development efforts. Serve as a “surrogate” to the rainmaker when acting independently.

Community

  • Develop strong relationships with select community leaders and influencers in the region that result in opportunities to open doors for Business Development efforts. Make strategic recommendations for executive relationships, manage/track relationship development and measure effectiveness of participation.
  • Contribute to the development of the local Community strategy – selection of organizations to align ourselves with, development of key relationships and assignment to Suffolk individuals to contribute to the Community effort.
  • Develop relationships to key organizations, oversee others community efforts and monitor their effectiveness on reaching business objectives.

Qualifications

  • 3-6 years marketing in professional services (agency background a plus)

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stands; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in an office environment with a quiet to moderate noise level. Job site walking.
