The Project Engineer/VDC Coordinator creates models and shop drawings adapted from construction documents to be utilized during the building process, ensuring delivery of VDC work to agreed project delivery dates. Responsible for project planning, detailed design development and coordination between all disciplines, managing and adhering to office/client VDC standards. Communicates internally and with client relating to delivery of VDC for relevant projects.


  • Works with project managers to ensure that all aspects of project management are successfully completed.
  • Works with VDC managers to ensure all aspects of the VDC modeling/coordination are successfully completed.
  • Models construction elements for presentation and construction purposes.
  • Reviews and analyzes project documents, identifying drawing and specification conflicts, insufficient information, and missing dimensions and draft requests for information (RFI’s) to the design team to resolve conflicts.
  • Manages document control and coordination with project teams.
  • Prepares shop drawings for assigned projects incorporating information from construction drawings, bulletins, sketches, RFI responses and shop drawings provided by other trades and coordinates drawing submittals.
  • Assists in the review of construction documents for clashes, constructability issues and conflicts.
  • Prepares quantity takeoffs and estimates as required.
  • Assists in the evaluation and coordination of material and labor requirements with field supervisors to ensure availability and efficient utilization of people and equipment on 2 assigned projects. Coordination includes planning, ordering, inventory control and transportation of materials and equipment.
  • Attends project meetings to resolve technical coordination issues.
  • Reviews new bulletins and change orders to identify and quantify changes and incorporate changes into project drawings.
  • Notifies project management of changes that might impact material and labor costs.
  • Ensures duplication and delivery of up-to-date drawings and instructions to the job site.
  • Records, updates and maintains RFI, Product Submittal, and drawing logs.
  • Ensures efficient inventory control and storage of shop drawings and contract documents.
  • Contributes to the operations safety goals by identifying and communicating potential hazards during the detailing stage.
  • Proactively works to enhance job-related skills and acquire overall knowledge of construction systems through study, training and hands-on participation in project coordination activities.
  • Performs special projects and completes all other duties as assigned or requested for the general support of the organization.

  • Associates Degree in Engineering, Structural Engineering or Engineering Technology or completed coursework in computer-aided design. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in multiple platforms - Revit 2016, AutoCAD, Autodesk BIM 360, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office. Navisworks, Tekla, Synchro, Sketch Up experience a plus.
  • A minimum of 1 year of VDC process experience.
  • Experience reading architectural/structural drawings and performing computer-aided design utilizing VDC software.
  • Experience in take-offs and estimating processes.
  • Advanced PC skills, specifically in a Windows environment, including collecting and analyzing data in Excel, and creating documents and preparing correspondence in Outlook and Word.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks, with an emphasis on thoroughness, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven mathematical and visualization skills. 3

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stands; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in an office environment with a quiet to moderate noise level. Job site walking.
