Interested applicants will have a degree in Engineering or Construction Management and the skills required to plan vertical construction projects using Oracle Primavera P6 scheduling software. This person will be willing to learn how to merge 3D BIM models with CPM schedules to create visual schedules, integrate lean (pull planning) methodologies with the CPM schedule, and apply innovative techniques for production management using linear schedules and takt time analytics to improve process flows. At various stages of the project, this person will provide technical and analytical input to facilitate re-planning, and workflow sequencing to ensure projects finish within their prescribed timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Primary Function:

    As a Construction Planning Analyst, your role centers on creating and maintaining project schedules, performing data analytics to identify risks, assessing portfolio schedule quality, liaison with data and IT for new construction tech pilot and implementation, and delivering enterprise-level reports, all while upholding Suffolk's core values and promoting effective teamwork.

  • Planning & Scheduling:

    • Develop a fundamental understanding of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Suffolk’s scheduling standards of practice (SOPs), and Scheduling theory/calculations.
    • Basic understanding of reviewing and interpreting Contract Drawings/Line Drawings, Contract Documents, and Specifications.
    • Working Knowledge of Oracle P6 Enterprise Scheduling Software.
    • Assemble Proposal schedules and Startup schedules for small or routine projects.
    • Assist Planners and Planning Managers- Updating project schedules, Current vs Last Month Schedule Comparison, Schedule Narratives & 6-8 week look ahead schedules.
    • Assist in creating Subnets(fragnets) for project issues, to demonstrate time impacts.

     

    Planning Analytics:

    • Develop Schedule Quality Metrics & Suffolk Functional Metrics for Quality Improvement and benchmarking.
    • Analyze Baseline schedules and Monthly Schedule Updates using deep dive approaches such as -Line of Balance (LOB), Systems of Work (SOW) variances, and Production comparison (Plan vs. Actual) to identify systems/schedules at risk.
    • Collaborate actively with Data Analytics & IT group to develop Dashboards, automate reports & create analytical tools.
    • Validate and Reconcile data between different platforms such as Oracle P6, Microsoft Power BI, Deltek Acumen, Graphic Schedule, QuickBase & Microsoft Excel.
    • Implement quality control measures on project schedules, with a specific focus on Suffolk’s Project and Activity Codes, which are fundamental components of schedule analytics.
    • Gather and consolidate historical data from archival sources to generate benchmark production data for various trades, encompassing concrete, steel, wood structures, facades, roughs, and finishes across different Strategic Business Units (SBU’s)
    • Leverage 3rd party tools such as SmartPM to identify compressed projects within the portfolio.
    • Develop monthly regional PowerPoint presentations and take the lead in discussions with regional leaders to evaluate projects that require special attention
    • Assist in P6 administration activities and contribute to the migration of systems to the cloud.

     

    Corporate Reporting:

    • Generate Enterprise(Portfolio) level monthly schedule reports to Presidents & COO’s communicating- Schedule variances, Schedule trends, Quality Metrics, Schedule Risk Status, and action Plans for recovery.
    • Publish Monthly schedule quality reports and functional metrics using Deltek Acumen Fuse.
    • Publish schedule Exception reports and ensure corrective actions are taken.
    • Update Process documents, Job Aids, Manuals, Calendars etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Structural engineering and/or Construction Management with 1-3 years of Planning & Scheduling Experience. 
  • Prior commercial/residential construction experience, especially vertical and high-rise projects, is preferred.
  • Proficient in Oracle P6 Enterprise Scheduling Software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite of Applications - Excel, Project & PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Database & BI tools such as MS Access, SQL, and Microsoft PowerBI is a plus, but not required.
  • Willing to learn and adapt to new construction tech advancements - IT Automation, Data Analytics, Data Visualization and Machine Learning.
  • Interested in learning low-code and no-code(LCNC) development platforms.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stands; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Compensation Information

The expected salary range for this position (Construction Planning Analyst) in Boston, MA is between $67.0 and $91.0 (annualized USD).  This represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Suffolk’s total compensation package for employees.  Actual salaries may be based on several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's skill set, experience, education and other qualifications, including budgetary objectives.  Suffolk offers a comprehensive benefits package as part of its overall compensation strategy.  Salary ranges may differ by geography and are reviewed regularly to reflect market trends.
